Farmer Diddley’s Favorites – May 17, 2015

Here’s this week’s collection of my favorite websites, blogs, podcasts, blog posts, Tweets, YouTube videos, gear, etc. Enjoy.

Favorite podcast

A few years ago I came across a book called Finding Ultra by Rich Roll. Being an aspiring ultra-runner I was intrigued by what I thought was a book about an ultra-endurance athlete, but oh my! it’s about so much more. At age 40, Rich Roll found himself as an overweight, out of shape, recovering alcoholic that had difficulty climbing a flight of stairs. By switching to a plant-based diet and training for an Ultraman event (basically equivalent to a double-Ironman Triathlon), he managed to turn his life around and become a world-class endurance athlete and one of the most respected voices in health, fitness, and nutrition. His weekly podcast, The Rich Roll Podcast, is awesome. It is easily my favorite podcast. His guests span the worlds of health, nutrition, athletics, entrepreneurship, creativity and the arts. This podcast is for everyone, whether you’re a die-hard vegan or a meat-and-potatoes manly man, an endurance althlete or a coach potato… especially the couch potatoes! This podcast will inspire everyone to get off the couch, get moving, and improve their health… and ultimately improve their lives.

Favorite YouTube Video

I find it difficult to describe exactly what filmmaker Casey Neistat does. Luckily I really don’t have to. Casey’s YouTube videos speak for themselves. His “Bike Lanes” video (embedded below) is awesome!  At the time of this writing it has over 14 million views!

Be sure to check out other videos on his YouTube Channel.

Favorite piece of gear

I am definitely a GoRuck fanboy. I own three of their packs, and hardly a week goes by that I don’t use all three! My GoRuck 10L Hydration Bullet Rucksack has become one of my favorite pieces of exercise gear. I’ve loaded it up with 30-lbs of sand and a 3-liter hydration bladder, which turns my daily hikes into intense workouts. Here’s my recent YouTube video review of the pack:
